Authorities on Long Island are investigating the apparent murder of a woman found dead at a high-end spa and resort in Southampton on Monday.
The victim, whose name and age has yet to be released, was a guest at the Shou Sugi Ban House in Water Mill.
Officers with the Southampton Town Police Department responded to the exclusive facility around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, after an employee reported finding a dead person in a guest room, NBC New York reported.
Investigators said the person was a victim of violence, but didn’t provide additional details.
One neighbor told Long Island News 12 the facility has a “good reputation,” adding they had “never heard a bad thing about it.”
It’s a “total shock,” the neighbor said.
The victim’s cause of death remains under investigation.
Shou Sugi Ban House, located on Montauk Highway, is described as a “private sanctuary and gated compound surrounded by evergreen trees and lush grasses.”
A spokesperson for the company didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday morning.
