A quick-thinking Stop & Shop employee is being credited with rescuing a kidnap victim who was being forced to withdraw money, authorities in Newington, Conn., said Monday.
Two people have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a woman and holding her for two days while they forced her to withdraw money from the grocery and pharmacy outlet, Newington police said in a statement.
On Tuesday, police announced that Amanda Ditommaso, 37, and Tylone Graham, 41, both of New Britain, had been arrested Sunday.
In a statement, police said the incident happened in October, when cops got a call from a Stop & Shop employee, who sensing something was off, asked for a “check on the welfare on an adult female.”
“After speaking to the female, it was determined she had been held against her will at the Grantmoor Motor Lodge and was being forced to withdraw money,” the cops said. “An investigation conducted by Newington Police officers found that Ditommaso and Graham had kidnapped the female victim for approximately two days.”
Ditommaso and Graham are each charged with kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
Ditommaso faces two additional charges for failure to appear; she was held on a total of $237,500 bond and scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Tuesday.
Graham was scheduled for court on Feb. 3, WVIT-TV reported. He posted $200,000 bond and was sent to the East Hartford Police Department for an active arrest warrant.
