The NYPD on Wednesday released surveillance footage of the two masked men wanted for shooting up a Bronx bodega, wounding six people — including a mom and daughter who the gunmen’s intended targets used as “human shields.”
The two gunmen opened fire from the middle of White Plains Road near E. 212th St. about 4:45 p.m. Monday during a “brazen and heartless attack,” NYPD Chief of Department John Chell said.
A 40-year-old mom and her 12-year-old daughter were inside the bodega making a purchase when the gunmen fired at a group of men standing outside.
As everyone scattered, a few of the men ran into the store, grabbed the mother and child and spun them around to use as “human shields,” Chell said.
“After the shots people start running,” a man who gave his name as Adama, 29, who works on the block told the Daily News Tuesday. “At that time I (saw) two, three customers here. They all run.”
The mother was shot once in the stomach. Her 12-year-old daughter was shot in the leg.
“We have additional four males shot in their arms and legs,” Chell said.
None of the injuries were life threatening.
Cops scouring the area for video recovered surveillance footage of the two suspects, one dressed all in black and the other dressed in gray. Both men had their faces covered with surgical masks. Cops are asking the public’s help identifying them and tracking them down.
The one dressed in black is believed to be between 18 and 25, about 5-foot-7 and 160 pounds. His companion is roughly the same age, about 5-foot-8 and 140 pounds.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
