When it comes to deciding what to name a puppy, it can be difficult for the whole family to agree.
However, the way in which people decide to name their dog has been changing over the years. New research revealed that trending dog names have been influenced by popular culture.
A whopping 29 percent of owners have decided to let internet memes impact what they call their dog.
The findings, by Guide Dogs, found that pet name choices are also shaped by personal heroes, TV shows and film stars.
This naming trend moves away from the traditional method of choosing a name based on family members and loved ones.
Both Billie and Taylor reference musical artists that have gained a huge following in recent years, namely Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift. Noel has also entered into the vernacular supposedly because of the highly anticipated Oasis reunion.
Sports stars have also been a source of inspiration, hence why Cole (Palmer) is predicted to be a popular dog name in 2025.
Guide Dogs Puppy Naming Specialist, Lydia Smith said: “Choosing a dog’s name often reflects our own values, passions, and ties to family and culture – and our research shows inspiration can come from anywhere.
“At Guide Dogs, naming each puppy is a careful balance between creativity and practicality.” Guide Dogs, the world’s largest assistance dog charity, are the only organisation that breeds and trains guide dogs in the UK.
Lydia Smith said: “As well as supporting their training, we carefully choose the names of our Sponsor a Puppy recruits to show off their individual personalities and of course, connect with the generous supporters who are following their journey to become life-changing guide dogs.”
