‘I’m a solo traveller – there’s security risk hotels should never do’ | Travel News | Travel

Solo travelling can be a great way to see the world and gain independence.

But it’s important to keep yourself as safe as possible at all times because trouble can arise at any moment.

One solo traveller named Ani shared her experience of travelling by herself and checking into a hotel at Newport Beach in California, where the hotel receptionist made her feel uneasy.

She shared how, as she went to check in at her hotel, the hotel receptionist said her room number out loud.

What made matters worse is there was another man within earshot who heard the number being said.

“There’s like a code to get in rather than a key, and he’s like ‘okay it’s in your email but I’ll write it down.’ And he wrote down the number, and there was a guy from like a nearby restaurant giving business cards and so the guy heard my room number and watches the guy write my code down on the piece of paper.”

She then asked the viewers what to do, as she wasn’t sure if she should go and ask the hotel to change the code to her room, as she doesn’t feel comfortable staying there anymore.

“I don’t think that guy’s intentions were anything negative, but like, this guy has my room number and saw the code,” she said.

People quickly took to the comments to share their support for Ani, saying she should tell the hotel what they did wrong.

“Former hotel manager here, 100% you should not accept a room where you feel someone has heard the room number or code. If the front desk associate gives you pushback, insist on talking to the manager on duty,” one person said.

Another person wrote: “As soon as they say room number out loud you say now give me a new room because you said it out loud.”

“I was a flight attendant a million years ago and this was safety 101. If they say your room number out loud, you request a different room,” a third person said.
