Health expert’s ‘fun’ cure for stress – and it might surprise you


A health expert revealed a fun and relaxing method to alleviate stress and anxiety symptoms.

Staycations in the UK are gaining popularity. In the past month, there were 16,000 searches for ‘hot tub breaks’, suggesting Brits are now looking to enhance their staycations with a hot tub to relax in during their UK retreat.

A TikTok video shared by holiday provider Parkdean Resorts showcasing its hot tub lodge experience has garnered nearly 30,000 views. Social media users took to the comments section to express their interest and desire for the getaway.

One eager individual said: “Can’t wait till I’m at my Parkdean holiday,” while others shared their obsession with hot tubs with simple remarks like “SO NICE”.

With this in mind, health and fitness coach James Cunningham has explained why holidaymakers should consider a hot tub break to improve their stress levels, along with a range of other potential health benefits.

The expert revealed: “Hot tubs are becoming more and more popular in the UK, with them being a big selling factor for holiday homes and lodges operators. Not only are hot tubs enjoyable when on holiday, but they also provide many benefits that users aren’t aware of.

“One of the main benefits of relaxing in a hot tub is its impact on our bodies’ stress levels. High levels of stress trigger an increase in cortisol, a hormone that, in excess, can lead to muscle breakdown, fat retention, and even sleep disturbances.”

James added: “The warmth of a hot tub, combined with the sensory relaxation it provides, can lower cortisol levels significantly. For individuals, especially those balancing demanding jobs and busy lives, this stress relief can improve overall health and significantly improve mental well-being.”

But there’s more; hot tub enthusiasts can also expect cardiovascular health improvements from their leisurely dips. The heat from a hot tub session increases heart rate and dilates blood vessels, akin to the effects of light exercise, which can boost circulation and heart function over time.

For those concerned about ageing or seeking additional ways to support heart health, hot tubs present a gentle option to maintain an active and healthy cardiovascular system.

He added: “Hot tubs, through heat therapy, help increase blood flow by dilating blood vessels. This improved circulation doesn’t just feel good – it actively promotes healing by delivering more oxygen and essential nutrients to the muscles.”
