A mugger beat bloody an elderly couple strolling in Hells’ Kitchen then ran off empty-handed after tearing off his shirt in a fit of rage, police said Tuesday.
The NYPD released surveillance footage of the shirtless attacker and is asking the public’s help identifying him and tracking him down.
The victims, a 75-year-old man and 70-year-old woman, were strolling on W. 44th St. when they were confronted near Ninth Ave. about 10:35 p.m. Saturday, cops said.
The bearded crook tried to yank the woman’s bag off her arm, throwing her to the ground. He also tried to rob her boyfriend, yelling, “Give me your wallet.”
But the boyfriend fought back and after a few moments the attacker took off his shirt, angry that he was unsuccessful in robbing either victim, and dashed off, running toward Tenth Ave., cops said.
The boyfriend, who was repeatedly punched during the clash, suffered serious wounds to his face including his eye. His girlfriend’s nose was bloodied by the robber and she hurt her elbow and neck.
Both victims were treated at Mount Sinai West and are recovering.
