A cleaning guru revealed a clever trick to restore your oven to its former glory for just 30p.
Keeping up with daily household chores can be challenging, particularly during the festive season when there are more events and hosting duties on the calendar.
Moreover, the traditional Christmas dinner, while tasty, certainly leaves its mark on the oven. Numerous products claim to eliminate grease and grime from glass oven doors, but Liam Spencer from Northallerton Glass shared a straightforward technique – and it utilises dishwasher tablets.
At around only 30p per tablet, this is an economical and useful hack that gets the job done. Many individuals scour the internet and social media in search of solutions to common cleaning problems.
Some suggest freshening up an oven using bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar or aluminium foil, but Liam lauds dishwasher tablets as more efficient.
He explained: “Sprinkling bicarbonate of soda and warm water on the glass and then scrubbing the door with a rolled up ball of aluminium foil is not likely to remove stubborn, baked-on stains.
“Similarly, using a mixture of bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar also will not work, as these two ingredients will neutralise each other and instead create what is essentially salty sparkling water. People mistakenly assume the fizzing reaction ‘lifts’ away dirt, but this is not true.”
Instead, Liam suggests using a dishwasher tablet to clean glass oven doors, and shared the ingenious yet simple method is as follows:
- Dip a dishwasher tablet into warm water and scrub it onto the glass oven door
- Once you no longer feel the tablet catching on any stains, use warm water and kitchen roll to wipe away the residue
Liam explained: “The dishwasher tablet may begin to disintegrate while you are using it to scrub the glass, but this will not affect the cleaning process and you should be wearing gloves while handling the tablet. They work effectively as they are made from concentrated dishwashing detergent, which is formulated to cut through grease.
“They also have an abrasive texture, which helps to remove stuck-on, stubborn stains without scratching the glass.”
He further advised: “You should only use pressed powder dishwasher tablets for cleaning glass oven doors, not gel pods.”
This handy method has gained popularity on social media, with cleaning content creator Hacks With Christina posting a video of herself cleaning her oven with a dishwasher tablet. She mirrored Liam’s guidance when outlining the simple step-by-step technique in the footage, and captioned the video: “Cleaning glass oven doors can be a daunting task!
“The grease and grime that gets stuck on the oven glass does not want to come off without a major scrubbing effort. Today I am showing you an easy way to clean baked on grease and grime off your oven glass door in less than 15 minutes!”
