Lunar new year is a general term for the new year celebrated on the lunar calendar, while Chinese new year is the specific name of the celebration in China.

The Chinese zodiac is a 12-year cycle that links each year to an animal sign based on the Chinese lunar calendar. The cycle changes to a new animal sign each year, with 2025 marking the Year of the Snake, the sixth position in the Chinese Zodiac.

About one-quarter of the world’s population will celebrate this poignant event on Wednesday, January 29, and many countries worldwide will participate in celebrations.

The expert astrologers at live psychic chat provider Psychic World teamed up with Inbaal Honigman, a celebrity psychic and astrologer, to provide insight into what this year will bring to each animal sign.

Inbaal revealed that the Year of the Snake “can be life-changing for many”, but only those who choose to embrace it, like those born in Rat or Monkey Years.

Rat

Those born in the Year of the Rat (1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020) are seen as witty, charming, and ambitious. Their quick thinking and effective problem-solving qualities mean that they welcome transformation, said Inbaal.

The astrologer suggested that the Year of the Snake “will be exciting for them [the rat], as it brings the changes they’re keen to experience.”

Ox

Ox years include (1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021).  People born under the sign of the Ox are seen as honest, persistent and down to earth which comes in handy when change is on the cards. Inbaal explained: “Their perseverance, diligence and patience mean that they tolerate change as long as it’s in their favour.”

The year of the Snake could be a mixed blessing for those linked to the Ox, warned the astrologer. She suggested that their reliable, stable nature might resent the metamorphosis they’re about to experience, but they will survive it and grow from it.

Tiger

Tiger years in the Chinese zodiac (1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022) encourage strength and confidence in those born between the Lunar new year dates.

According to Inbaal, their leadership qualities and down-to-earth work ethic mean they can succeed and prevail whatever the zodiac. It means that the Year of the Snake will pose no challenges for them as their confidence carries them through life’s ebbs and flows.

Rabbit

Those born under the sign of the Rabbit (1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011, 2023) are seen as witty, vigilant and ingenious. Their quick mind means they can cope with anything life throws their way, suggested Inbaal.

“The sign of the Rabbit is a symbol of prosperity, longevity and peace, and they’ll enjoy the surprises of the year of the Snake”, she said.

Snake

Those born under the sign of the Snake (1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013) may think this will be a lucky year for them, but the belief is that the reigning year isn’t that prosperous for those linked to the animal sign.

Snakes are seen as charming, elegant, and wise. Their intuition, intelligence, and their gift for strategy make them flexible, so they can thrive in any situation, said Inbaal.

She noted that the Year of the Snake is “a year of transformation for all”—but especially for those born during this year.

Horse

Years linked to the Horse sign (1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014) are affiliated with hardworking, independent and warm-hearted people born under the zodiac animal. Their speed, vitality and perseverance mean that they enjoy routine and predictability, according to Inbaal.

But she warned them that the Year of the Snake might confuse them. “As people and situations change, sometimes without warning, Horse-born individuals might struggle to adapt”, she said.

Goat

Those born under the sign of the Goat (1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015) are seen as compassionate, nurturing and creative. Their harmonious nature creates a safe space where everyone can thrive.

The year of the Snake, with its twists and turns, could be challenging for the Goat, warned Inbaal. She said: “They might not enjoy a year of transformation because they favour a quieter pace.”

Monkey

Those born under the sign of the Monkey (1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016) are seen as quick-witted, smart and playful. Their entertaining nature makes them fabulous friends.

Inbaal said: “The year of the Snake lets every sign shed their skin to reveal their new tricks and traits beneath, and the versatile, mischievous Monkey can out-Snake the Snake; they’ll enjoy all that the year has to offer.”

Rooster

Those born under the sign of the Rooster (1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017) are known to be dedicated, disciplined and ambitious. Their desire for excellence in everything they do keeps them confident, said Inbaal, but the Year of the Snake could jeopardise this.

She said: “The Year of the Snake offers little reassurance because it is fast-paced and intuitive. Roosters could struggle to progress when their tasks and goalposts keep changing.”

Dog

Years of the Dog (1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018) are linked to steadfast, honest and reliable people born in such times. The astrologer says their friendly loyalty and honesty make them wonderful companions.

The year of the Snake neither adds nor subtracts from their enjoyment of life. Inbaal explained that those linked to the Dog appreciate stability but not so much that the transformational nature of the Year of the Snake would upset them. She said that if a special friend leaves their lives, they’ll make a new one.

Pig

Those born under the sign of the Pig (1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019) are calm, understanding and tolerant. The psychic said, “A friend to many, their down-to-earth, easy-going personality is popular with all types of people.”

The year of the Snake might be a bit jarring for the Pig, however, with its sudden changes and complete transformation. It’s not all bad news, though, as the Pig is one of the luckiest signs, so it quickly finds its feet, said Inbaal.

Dragon

People born under the sign of the Dragon  (1928, 1940, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024) are seen as courageous, enthusiastic and confident. Their tenacity and intelligence mean they’ll embrace change, stepping in to help others who struggle.

Inbaal warned: “The year of the Snake might require them to tone down their fire, though they can still be their authentic self, now that the year of the Dragon is ending.”
