‘Change your life’ in 2025 with these 7 New Year’s Resolutions

When the New Year’s resolution frenzy hits, it can be challenging to focus on your own goals without being swayed by everyone else’s plans.

It’s hard not to feel overwhelmed when Instagram stories are brimming with green juices, fresh workout routines, and self-help books, all aimed at making 2025 the best year yet.

But remember, you’re on your own unique journey, and your choices should directly benefit you. TikTok content creator Arina Negishi has shared seven resolutions that could “change your life”, captioning her post: “Energy flows where intention goes”.

Arina’s first suggestion for the new year is to “stop wishing you were someone else”. She also recommends having “weekly check-ins with family and friends” to keep up with their lives.

Another tip is to “commit to a healthier sleeping routine”. The NHS supports this advice, stating: “The mental health benefits of good sleep include boosting our mood, reducing stress and helping with anxiety. If you’re having trouble sleeping, knowing how to sleep better can make a big difference.”

Adults should aim for between seven and nine hours of sleep per night on average. If you’re struggling with this, here are some tips to try in 2025.

Maintaining a healthy sleep routine (sleep hygiene), relaxing, unwinding, and trying meditation to aid sleep are all recommended. Mindfulness for sleep is another suggestion, as well as creating the right environment for sleep.

It’s important not to force sleep but to improve it through diet and exercise. Arina also suggested “try something new each month”—be it a new breakfast smoothie or a new hobby like painting with friends.

She advised writing down each month’s plan to ensure adherence. She emphasised the need to “take 10 mins a day for self-care”, demonstrating this by using a Jade roller on her face.

This could involve running a bath, maintaining a skincare routine, taking a 10-minute power walk during lunch, or meditating. The key is to dedicate time solely for oneself.

Arina advised against “avoid looking at your phone as soon as you wake up”, suggesting journaling in the morning instead. The Morning Pages technique, a daily stream-of-consciousness journaling practice created by Julia Cameron in her book The Artist’s Way, could be tried.

The idea is to write until everything has been expressed, then proceed with the day as usual. Lastly, she stressed the importance of “speaking kindly to yourself”, discouraging negative self-talk.

You should speak to yourself like you would a friend.
