Experts from Steven Stone jewellers apraised the precious stones, identifying eyes of cabochon rubies and wings encrusted with diamonds. The striped abdomen set in yellow gold features more diamonds.
The jewellers added: “Though the brooch origin is unknown, it bears resemblance to one of Queen Alexandra’s, which she received from the Ladies of Blackburn in 1888.”
Camilla has been seen wearing the brooch on previous occasions, including, fittingly, during a meeting with beekeepers when she visited Shrewsbury last year.
