Netflix adds recent thriller that kept fans ‘on edge for two hours’ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

A thriller that garnered glowing reviews on its 2023 debut is now accessible to anyone with a Netflix account, promising to ensnare viewers from start to finish with its remarkably innovative concept.

Its standout quality lies not just in the gripping narrative but also in the singular gimmick that distinguishes it from other thrillers.

Launched in 2023, this fascinating screenlife phenomenon unfolds exclusively across a computer screen, smartphones, or similar devices.

Missing serves as an autonomous sequel to the 2018 film Searching, featuring Storm Reid as June Allen, an 18 year old caught in a frantic search for her mother who vanishes while on holiday with her new partner.

Although thousands of miles apart, with her mother gone in Colombia and herself in Los Angeles, June harnesses every piece of technology she can to unveil shocking truths, reports the Mirror.

The film boasts an impressive 88 percent rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes (and an even more remarkable 90 percent from audiences), making Missing something you won’t want to skip now that it’s available on Netflix.

Empire hailed it as “a gripping, well-told, incredibly watchable thriller for a new generation of TikTok sleuths – and a compelling argument to up your average screen-time.”

They also hailed Reid’s “excellent and engaging performance” and remarked that “while both are stories about fractured relationships between parents and children being healed through a traumatic experience, Missing finds surprising, dramatically powerful ways to deepen that arc, with a final-act reveal that hits hard.”

One Google reviewer was thrilled, exclaiming: “Absolutely Amazing! Two hours of being on edge, unable to take your eyes off the screen!!

“Also an amazing writing voice that shows how great a storyteller the director is.

“The twists were shocking but smoothly paced although the main twist was a bit paralyzing to handle for a minute or two!!”

On Letterboxd, the film social media platform, fans can’t stop talking about Missing, with one user sharing: “Loved this!

“So well acted and edited plus it was incredibly tense and engaging the entire runtime.

“The twists and turns and little lightbulb moments where something clicked were fantastic!! I loved piecing together the puzzle right alongside June.”

Another user was captivated: “Somehow this was even more thrilling and intense than its predecessor. Had my jaw dropping several times.

“And it’s all pulled together by an insanely good performance from Storm Reid.”

“While another fan teased: “The number of plot twists shocked me like my jaw was on the floor.”

Missing is available to stream on Netflix.
