Here’s What Elon Musk Told China’s Vice President in Person

China’s Vice President Han Zheng touched down in the U.S. as President Xi Jinping’s special representative and quickly made new friends in President-elect Donald’s Trump’s “first buddy” Elon Musk on Sunday, according to Chinese state media. Xinhua News Agency reports Zheng met with the Tesla CEO “and expressed his welcome for American companies including Tesla to seize the opportunity, share the fruits of China’s development, and make new and greater contributions to promoting China-US economic and trade relations,” according to the report. Musk’s reply? “Musk said that Tesla is willing to deepen investment and cooperation in China and play an active role in promoting U.S.-China economic and trade exchanges.” Zheng also met vice president-elect Vance in Washington, where, according to Xinhua, “Vance asked Han Zheng to convey President-elect Trump’s sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping, saying that President-elect Trump had a phone call with President Xi Jinping a few days ago and had good communication on important issues in bilateral relations.” He added: “The United States is willing to develop a long-term and fruitful relationship with China, strengthen dialogue and cooperation on international and regional issues, and jointly promote world peace and stability.”
