Nespresso fans say hack that lets you brew any pod as espresso is ‘game-changer’

Nespresso machine owners, whether long-time users or recent recipients, will know the frustration of having only ‘big’ coffee capsules when all you want is an espresso shot. The Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine uses technology to read the barcode on each capsule, automatically adjusting to the perfect settings for that particular coffee.

It can brew espresso, double espresso, and larger cups of coffee. However, it appears that even with a larger pod, you can still brew a double espresso, thanks to a clever hack.

Online content creator Mark James took to TikTok to share the ‘double click’ hack, which he claims will “revolutionise your Nespresso coffee game”. Mark explained that he has a Nespresso Vertuo Pop, and while there are fantastic flavours available for the machine, they are “always in a bigger cup size”, but he prefers a double espresso. Thanks to his hack, he can transform any pod into a double espresso.

Demonstrating the hack, he revealed that you should insert the large pod, and instead of pressing the button to start it once, you need to “quickly double tap and it will turn blue”. “That’s going to give you a double espresso shot rather than a long cup shot which is an absolute game-changer because it opens up all the flavours of the long cup pods and making double espressos and lattes and things like that,” he clarified.

The tips didn’t stop there – you can also transform a double espresso shot pod into a single espresso shot by double-clicking. Unfortunately for Nespresso enthusiasts, this trick doesn’t apply to every machine; it’s only effective on the newer models of Nespresso Vertuo, such as the Next and Pop.

Nonetheless, there’s still a workaround for the volume of water on other machines: simply halt the brewing cycle by pressing the start button again when desired. While it might not be the concentrated extraction of ‘expert mode’ seen in the latest machines, it remains a handy method worth knowing.

Nespresso fans were enthralled by this discovery, with one exclaiming: “So clever. Gonna have to try this,” while others expressed eagerness to test it out themselves.
