An online fundraiser raising money for the legal defense of suspected UnitedHealthcare CEO shooter Luigi Mangione has raised over $120,000 as of Sunday night. The “December 4 Legal Committee,” the group coordinating the fundraiser, said that they do not condone violence, but were raising money to make sure Mangione gets a fair trial. “In the midst of a heated political climate in which an unbiased jury is almost impossible to imagine, this fundraiser will help to guarantee the suspect’s constitutional right to fair legal representation,” the group said in a statement sent to the Daily Beast last week. The fundraiser is hosted by GiveSendGo, which markets itself as a Christian crowdfunding site that has previously been used to raise money for the legal defense of Kyle Rittenhouse and Daniel Penny. Similar fundraisers posted on GoFundMe were taken down for violating the site’s terms of service, NBC News reported last week. GiveSendGo also told the network that they do not condone “vigilante justice,” but would leave the fundraiser in place. Thomas Dickey, the attorney representing Mangione as he fights his extradition from Pennsylvania, previously told CNN he “probably wouldn’t” accept outside offers to pay for his legal bills. For his charges in New York, Mangione has retained former Manhattan prosecutor Karen Friedman Agnifilo.
