How to banish condensation from windows using common 83p ingredient

Many of us wake up to condensation on our windows at this time of year.

It may be annoying and frustrating but there’s little we can do about it. We simply have to do our best to try and clear it as soon as possible.

One woman, known as @doingupmyhome on TikTok, recently tried three common hacks to rid the pesky stuff, and she admitted one worked wonders. When it comes to removing condensation, it appears something everyone has in their home could make all the difference.

She admitted it’s never a good thing to have around the home, as it can turn to mould. This is why she searched for hacks to try and fix the problem.

In the clip, the content creator explained: “I tried three different hacks over four days, and the winner was this – washing up liquid on a clean, dry microfibre cloth. Wipe it on the entire pane and frames. Wipe it a few times so there’s no film left on the windows.”

She added: “It worked absolutely brilliant. The main thing here is that it lasts about two weeks, so it does need to be re-done. It also led to another hack, which was the mirror in my bathroom.

“I decided to try the same product on my mirror. One of the kids had a shower, so it was condensation on the glass and on the window, and you can see that the mirrors stay clear.”

Since the video was shared, it’s been viewed over 30,000 times, and people were quick to comment too. Hundreds have weighed in to share their thoughts.

One said: “This is a massive problem for me. It has my heart broken. Every morning I find water running down my windows.”

Another wrote: “Thanks. I’ve got condensation on my windows. Air vents open and I have a small dehumidifier on. I’ll give this a go.”

Some people did point out a potential problem though, as they thought condensation still has to go “somewhere”. Others also suggested other methods that work to aid the issue.

One person said: “The best trick is dehumidifiers and airing the place out.” Another added: “This doesn’t stop the moisture forming. It just means it forms elsewhere – maybe you don’t see it.”

Experts said the hack does work though – there are just some things you need to know about it. When the product is used, it creates a thin film that lowers surface tension and stops water droplets from forming.

What people need to be aware of is it’s a temporary solution, and may not totally stop condensation, especially on colder days. Improved ventilation, dehumidifiers and drying clothes outside can all work to remedy the problem.
