Six once-popular baby names ‘going extinct’ in 2025

Disney-inspired names such as Jasmine and Arthur have always been popular choices with parents across the globe.

But with new movies being released, some parents are shifting towards more unique, less traditional names.

With 2025 just around the corner, Disney experts at AttractionTickets.com have used the UK’s top 100 baby name data from 2022 to 2024 to predict which Disney names are “going extinct” in 2025.

The experts also revealed which names will become increasingly popular next year among parents.

The most popular Disney-inspired girls’ names for 2025 are Aurora, Charlotte, Daisy, Riley and Violet. The most popular Disney-inspired boys’ names for 2025 are Christopher and Hudson.

Isabelle/Belle

The name Belle or Isabelle, inspired by Beauty and the Beast, has fallen out of favour in recent years and will likely disappear entirely off the list by 2025.

In 2022, Isabelle placed 43rd on the list of top 100 names but hasn’t been on the list since.

The experts said: “This decline might reflect a shift toward less traditional and more unique names, as Belle’s timeless but familiar charm no longer resonates as strongly with today’s modern parents.”

Jasmine

Jasmine, inspired by the Disney film Aladdin, has seen a steady drop, going from 94th in 2022 to being entirely off the list.

Despite the live-action movie release in 2019, it seems the more traditional name has become less popular, perhaps signalling a generational shift in name preferences.

Arlo

Inspired by Disney’s The Good Dinosaur, the name Arlo saw a dramatic drop from 18th place in 2022 to falling off the list in 2024.

The film’s release may have influenced the name’s meteoric rise in popularity in 2015. However, with more modern names emerging, the name has become less popular among parents.

Arthur

Arthur is a classic British name with roots in Welsh culture. The name has also been popular in the past thanks to the noble character from Disney’s The Sword in the Stone.

However, recently, the name has become less popular in recent years. In 2022, the name was in sixth place, but now it is nowhere to be found on the top 100 list.

The experts added: “Its drop may be due to a growing preference for contemporary names, as well as shifts away from older historical references.”

Elliot

The once-popular name slipped from 83rd place in 2022 to not being featured on the list in recent years.

The name was inspired by the main protagonist in Disney’s Pete’s Dragon.

Finn

Known from Star Wars’ recent trilogy, Finn’s popularity has tapered off as the saga moves away from recent memory.

The name no longer appears in the top 100 list for 2024 and the experts predict it won’t return for 2025.
