Drinking one warm drink before bed ‘guarantees a good night’s sleep’

Struggling to get a good night’s sleep can be utterly miserable.

After all, we require rest to feel revitalised, alert and to simply navigate the day ahead. If you’re battling to secure some quality slumber, an expert disclosed that consuming one straightforward beverage before bed will guarantee you some much-needed shut-eye.

Sabrina Bawa, author of Detox to Glow, recently divulged a recipe on TikTok for the ideal evening drink. The wellness guru suggests a basic warm drink can enhance your sleep each night, and the recipe is quite uncomplicated.

She recommends sipping on a bit of warm cinnamon milk approximately 90 minutes before bedtime, stating it will aid in calming the mind and unwinding. We all require a touch of relaxation to help us drift off to sleep, after all.

To make the spiced milk, she uses one cup of plant-based milk, roughly a quarter to a half teaspoon of cinnamon powder and half a teaspoon of ghee. She simmers this blend for a few minutes and, once heated, all that’s left is to remove it from the heat and let it cool down slightly.

Once this is done, all that’s left to do is drizzle a little honey over the top to add a hint of sweetness.

Sabrina said: “I’ve been making spiced warm milk at night ever since I can remember. This variation is the one that works best for me.

“So, if you can’t fall asleep at night, or if you wake up in the middle of the night and you can’t fall back asleep, you have to try this one. It will warm and ground your nervous system back to sleep.”

The clip garnered hundreds of likes since its upload, with viewers eager to share their thoughts. Sabrina pointed out cow’s milk is also an option for those who prefer it.

One viewer commented: “I want to try this and see if it works.” Another queried: “Can I use cow’s milk? Or is plant-based milk key?” Yet another asked: “What can I use instead of ghee?”

Many recall being tucked into bed with a warm glass of milk as a childhood remedy for restless nights. While the effectiveness of this traditional practice remains a topic of debate among scientists, there are undeniable benefits to spicing up your nighttime beverage.

Cinnamon, for instance, acts as a natural muscle relaxant conducive to sleep. Additionally, the warmth of the milk is believed to internally heat the body, encouraging a sense of tranquility and comfort.

Moreover, milk is a source of tryptophan, an amino acid instrumental in the production of serotonin and melatonin, both of which play a role in sleep regulation.
