28 Days Later finally returns to streaming as release date announced | Films | Entertainment

Earlier this month, the first trailer for Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s long-awaited 28 Years Later landed.

The excitement is real, given that, after It: Chapter Two, it was the most-watched horror trailer of all time in its first 24 hours, with 60.2 million views.

Since the new film trilogy was announced, fans have been scrambling to find 2002’s 28 Days Later on streaming, but to no avail.

The film starring Cillian Murphy, who returns as Jim in 28 Years Later, used to be available to watch on Disney+, which is where its sequel, 28 Weeks Later, remains to this day.

However, the first film has since disappeared and is currently unavailable to watch legally online.

According to JoBlo, Disney has lost the rights to the indie movie which are now with Sony as part of their package of acquiring the rights for 28 Years Later and its upcoming two sequels.

Now following the unprecedented excitement around the 28 Years Later trailer, Sony Pictures have announced that 28 Days Later is set to return to streaming tomorrow on December 18 to rent or buy.

Meanwhile, 28 Days Later will hit UK cinemas on June 20, 2025.
